The lighting conditions were terrible, with numerous lights having blown and more than half not functioning correctly. This led to increased errors as the constant shadows made it challenging to view drawings properly. Additionally, staff frequently experienced eye strain. One worker even commented, “The old lights were so bad, it was nearly impossible to see where you were going.”
What we did
We created a lighting design looking at the different spaces and how they were used. We then installed ultra-efficient LED lighting solutions. In areas with high bays, we substituted the existing fixtures with ultra high output fittings that emit 29,000 lumens. In places with low ceilings, we replaced the 400w fixtures with 60w high output batons to ensure optimal illumination.
Outcome
Following the installation of the LED lights, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The staff have commented that the new lighting is like daylight and there is a more positive feeling when coming into work. Workers have also expressed gratitude for the steps taken to enhance their environment, noting not only a more pleasant ambiance but also the added benefit of a safer workplace from a health and safety perspective.
With ultra efficient lights and a new lighting control system we were able to increase lighting levels by up to 200% throughout the store.
Lighter have worked closely with PGG Wrightson to visit and upgrade multiple stores that had poor and inefficient lighting.
